Summer is almost over, and while the temperature drops outside, we're getting ready to warm up your autumn nights with flamenco classes, productions and community events!
| | Artistic Director Susana di Palma has over 30 years of experience teaching flamenco to students of all ages.
| | Summer classes are ending, but we'll be back this fall with new teachers, new class times and new energy for Zorongo. Instructors Deborah Elias and Colette Illarde will be familiar to many Zorongo students. Both have worked extensively with Zorongo in the past, most recently in "Dali's Cookbook: A Gastronomical Inquisition" for Colette, and in "Tra Ti Ti Tran Tran Toro" for Deborah. Each will be bringing her own special take on flamenco to classes. Of course, Artistic Director Susana di Palma is still the mainstay of Zorongo's teaching roster. Susana is excited to sign up new students this fall, as well as reconnecting with people who've taken classes in the past. She would love it if every returning student brought a friend to share in the magic and passion of flamenco this fall. Likewise, guitar accompaniment will be provided by some familiar faces: Michael Hauser, Trevor May and Diego Rowan Martin will all be returning this fall. Diego has had an especially interesting summer, spending most of it in Spain, where he was named "el Maestro del futuro" by the newspaper in Cordoba. Don't delay in signing up for classes! There is a 10% off discount for all full-session registrations received by September 2nd, when paid in full at that time. | Tra Ti Ti Tran Tran Toro Delights Audiences of All Ages!
| | For several years, Zorongo Flamenco has been delighting children around the metro area with our puppet-and-flamenco production "Tra Ti Ti Tran Tran Toro". "Toro" tells the story of a Spanish bull whose owner, a flamenco dancer, falls in love with a tourist from Minnesota, and goes to live with him on his farm. Unfortunately, the bull has a hard time fitting in, but eventually he and the other animals learn to accept one another. The show is directed at children in 2nd through 6th grades, but it's fun for all ages.
Do you know a school, community group or other organization that would benefit from seeing "Toro"? Please let Zorongo's Arts Administrator, Niels Strandskov know. Our rates for this performance are very reasonable, and we can send a study guide to enhance the educational experience.
| | Open House! To celebrate the beginning of our Fall Class Session, Zorongo will be hosting an open house at our studio at 3012 Minnehaha Avenue on Saturday, September 10th. There'll be free flamenco classes for children and adults, as well as tapas, wine, music and more! The fun starts at 11 a.m., with an adult flamenco class until 11:40. At 11:45 it's the kids turn until noon, and from noon to 1 p.m. there'll be performances by continuing Zorongo students. Please stop by at any time and reconnect with the Zorongo community.
